June 25 1942, approximately 68 miles southwest of Yokohama, Japan. This picture, taken through a the periscope from the American submarine, U.S.S. Nautilus. The Nautilus fired two torpedoes at the I.J.N. Yamakaze destroyer, sinking it within 5 minutes.
The photo was published in U.S. Camera magazine in December 1942, titled as "Doom of Jap Warship." On the bridge of the Yamakaze, you can see the silhouettes of two men wearing white shirts.
