September 2 1945, Tokyo Bay. U.S. Navy aircraft flying in formation over Tokyo Bay with the transport ship U.S.S. Ancon (AGC-4) in the middle during a surrender ceremony. The fast battleships on the lower left and right were added into the photo after it was taken.
The Ancon was a veteran of many landings, it was even the flag ship transport at the Normandy Landings of Omaha Beach. She was later used in the Pacific and took part of missions in the Philippines, Okinawa and Japan, where her crew witnessed the signing of the surrender treaty from the U.S.S. Missouri. Ancon continued her career during the occupation period and was used for many things by the Navy until she was decommissioned and eventually sold for scrap in May 1973.
